License agreement
Last updated 26 October 2026
1. About this agreement
This agreement is between you and Babblekey, the business that makes the Babblekey software ("we" or "us"). It covers the Babblekey apps for Mac and Windows, their updates and their documentation (together, "Babblekey").
By installing or using Babblekey, you agree to this agreement. If you don't agree, don't install or use it. If you accept it for a company, you confirm you may bind the company, and "you" means the company.
Babblekey is licensed to you, not sold. We and our licensors keep every right this agreement doesn't give you.
2. Your license
You may install and use Babblekey on computers you own or control, for personal or business use.
We don't promise to keep publishing updates, or that Babblekey will keep working with future versions of macOS or Windows.
3. What you may not do
Unless the law lets you regardless, or an open-source license in section 4 allows it, you may not:
- copy Babblekey, except to install it as this agreement allows;
- get around any limit built into Babblekey;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Babblekey;
- remove or change any copyright, trademark or license notice in it;
- rent, lend, sublicense or redistribute Babblekey, or offer it as a service to others;
- use Babblekey for anything unlawful.
4. Open-source and third-party software
Babblekey includes open-source software, such as Python, and parts other companies make, such as Microsoft. Each part comes under its own license, given in full in the THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt file inside the app. Where one of those licenses gives you rights to its part that this agreement would otherwise take away, that license applies to that part.
Microsoft's runtime. The Windows app contains code that Microsoft licenses for use in other programs (the Visual C++ runtime). You may use it only as part of Babblekey, on Windows. Sections 3, 8, 9 and 10 protect Microsoft and our other suppliers and licensors as they protect us. None of them gives you any warranty, and none of them is liable to you.
5. Updates
Babblekey checks for updates soon after it starts and every few hours after that. It downloads new versions by itself and installs them the next time it starts. By using Babblekey, you agree to receive these updates. This agreement covers them, unless an update comes with new terms.
6. What Babblekey sends over the internet
Babblekey turns your speech into text on your own computer. Your voice isn't uploaded, to us or to anyone else, and dictating needs no internet connection.
Babblekey itself contacts only:
- The AI provider you choose, and only when you use a mode that needs one. Babblekey sends the text of that dictation and the mode's instructions straight from your computer to that provider, with your own API key, and nothing goes through us. The provider's own terms and privacy policy cover what it does with them, and it charges you for them. With a provider on your own computer, such as Ollama, the text doesn't leave it.
- Our update server at updates.babblekey.com, to check for and download updates. Like any website, it sees your IP address and which files Babblekey asks for.
Babblekey has no account, analytics or tracking. Your dictation history stays on your computer, and so does its log unless you send it to us.
7. Ending the license
- You can end this agreement at any time by deleting Babblekey.
- It ends by itself if you break it.
- When it ends, stop using Babblekey and delete it.
- Sections 3, 4 and 8 to 14 still apply after it ends.
8. No warranty
Babblekey is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we and our suppliers and licensors give no warranties or conditions, express or implied. That includes any that it is of satisfactory quality, fit for a particular purpose, or free of errors or interruptions.
9. Limits on liability
As far as the law allows:
- we and our suppliers and licensors aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost data, profits or revenue;
- our total liability to you for everything to do with Babblekey is limited to what you paid for it;
- Microsoft and our other suppliers and licensors aren't liable to you at all.
Nothing in this agreement limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for gross negligence, fraud or wilful misconduct, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit.
10. Export
You may not use or export Babblekey in breach of any export control or sanctions law that applies to it. That includes using it in an embargoed country, or if those laws bar you.
11. Your rights as a consumer
If you're a consumer, the law where you live may give you rights that this agreement can't take away, such as a repair or refund for faulty digital content. Nothing in this agreement limits them.
12. Disputes
If something goes wrong, email us at [email protected] first, and we'll try to put it right. If you're a consumer, you can also bring a claim where you live when your law allows it.
13. Changes
We may update this agreement for later versions of Babblekey, and will post each version on this page with its date. A change applies to updates installed after it's posted. It never takes away a license you've already paid for.
14. General and contact
This is the whole agreement between us about Babblekey. If a court finds part of it unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You may transfer this agreement only with our permission. We may transfer it to whoever takes over Babblekey.
